Understanding Schedule Rules

Schedule Rules define when an experience is allowed to appear - down to the hour, day, and time range. These rules ensure your experiences are live only when you want them to be.

Schedule Rules are required for every experience and are set in the Rules step of the Experience Builder.

There are two types of scheduling you can apply:

1. Date & Time

Use these rules to define a start and/or end date and the time of day the experience will run.

Rule Options:

  • Is after – The experience will be eligible to show after this date and time.

  • Is before – The experience will be eligible to show up to and including this date and time.

You can combine both to set a specific window.
To add multiple time windows (e.g. weekends only or different days with different times), you can use the AND function to layer rules.

Example:

Is after: 1 April, 08:00

AND

Is before: 30 April, 18:00

This would run the experience only during this April date range.

Important:
Schedule rules follow the time zone of the promotion, which uses UTC as standard. Double-check this if you’re targeting time-specific campaigns across regions.

2. Day of the Week

Target specific days alongside your date/time rules.

Rule Options:

  • Is in – Show the experience on selected days (e.g. Monday to Friday).

  • Is not in – Exclude specific days (e.g. not Sunday).

Example:

Is in: Saturday, Sunday
This would allow the experience to appear only on weekends.

These are often used in combination with date/time rules to give you more control.

Best Practices

  • Always test your rules against the time zone you’re targeting.

  • Use combinations of date, time, and day rules to narrow delivery to exactly when your audience is most active.

  • Keep rule sets clear and consistent — overly complex layering may cause unintentional gaps.

Note: Schedule rules are not evaluated when previewing to enable testing of the desired flow before it goes live
